Teleconferences-2011


The RA Ministry of Diaspora organized a teleconference with members of the Armenian community of Tula on November 29.


Among participants from Armenia were RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Vardan Marashlyan employees of the Department for Armenian Communities of the CIS headed by Head of Department Andranik Arshakyan and other ministry employees. Among participants from Tula region were representatives of Krunk Armenian Cultural Center NGO and youth organizations, as well as teachers, students and others.


The goal of the teleconference was to discuss key issues facing the Armenian community of Tula, present the programs of the RA Ministry of Diaspora, strengthen and develop the partnership between the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Armenian community of Tula and reinforce the community’s participation in pan-Armenian programs.


RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Vardan Marashlyan presented the ministry’s programs and activities, touched upon the ministry’s educational, cultural and youth programs for preservation of the Armenian identity and consolidation of the potential of Diaspora Armenians (“Our Greats”, “Ari Tun”, “School for Young Leaders”, “School for Young Journalists”, the “Diaspora Summer University”, etc.) and placed importance on the introduction of the dual citizenship institute in the Republic of Armenia.


Head of the Department for Armenian Communities of the CIS Andranik Arshakyan touched upon the “Conception for Organizing the Process of Repatriation” and the RA draft law “On Repatriation”. Presenting the ministry’s “Program for Assistance in the Solution to Educational and Cultural Issues of Armenian Communities in the CIS”, Arshakyan also touched upon the particularities of Armenian communities in the CIS, as well as the key issues related to preservation of Armenian identity in the traditional and newly established Diaspora Armenian communities.


The ministry employees answered questions concerning the community members.


The deputy minister called no more active participation in the programs and events organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

The coordinating council for the 5th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists held its fourth session headed by RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan at the sessions hall of the RA Ministry of Diaspora on October 28. Among participants of the session were President of the All-Armenian Media Association T. Harutyunyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Journalism N. Martirosyan, editor of anews.am A. Avetisyan, YSU Professor H. Zoryan and others. Founding editor of “Noyev Kovcheg” newspaper of Russia G. Anisonyan and editor of “Nor Harach” newspaper of France Jirair Cholakian were also joining the session through long-distance connection.


RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan greeted the gathered and slightly touched upon the issues related to mass media that were discussed at the 5th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists in 2010 and the Pan-Armenian Forum for Heads and Representatives of Diaspora Armenian Organizations in 2011.


Editor of Lebanon’s “Aztag” daily newspaper Shahan Gantaharian delivered a report on the first issue on the agenda and discussed the activities of the coordinating council in 2011.


Gantaharian’s speech was followed by discussions in which the participants attached importance to the lack of translations of Armenian releases in Arab and Turkish languages, the need for inviting journalists working for foreign media to Armenia, the issue of translating information, the need for accelerated instruction of the native language and more.


The second issue on the agenda was presented by Head of the News-Analysis Division of the Department of Information and Telecommunication at the RA Ministry of Diaspora N. Nalbandyan. Nalbandyan presented the issues related to the language and form of delivery of Armenia’s mass media outlets during the Pan-Armenian Forum for Heads and Representatives of Diaspora Armenian Organizations and the 5th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists in 2010, as well as the violations of rules of journalists’ speech and etiquette that Armenia’s mass media outlets have been committing more and more in the past decade.

Summing up the session and the issues raised, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan touched upon the third issue on the agenda, that is, the preparatory activities and the formation of the agenda for the 6th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists to be held in 2012.


The minister proposed to hold the 6th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists with the title “Armenian Journalism: Ahead of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide” and organize it in Yerevan on September 19-20, 2012. The minister also placed importance on the establishment of a “Summer University for the Diaspora” on the foundations of Yerevan State University with five faculties, including Young Journalists, Young Leaders, Teacher Training, Culture and Accelerated Instruction of the Native Language.


RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan also called on the participants of the session to be active.

A teleconference with the participation of representatives of the Armenian community in Samara was held at the RA Ministry of Diaspora on October 21.

 

Among participants from Armenia were RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, Chief of Staff Firdus Zakaryan and the heads of all departments of the ministry.

 

Among participants from Samara were Head of the “Nairi” National-Cultural Autonomy in Samara Zohrab Mirzoyan, Head of the Armenian Community regional non-governmental organization Artur Martirosyan, Director of the Home of Friendship between Nations Myurbach Dmitri Vital, founder of the Benevolent Foundation for the Preservation of History and Culture of Armenia Karen Polatyan, Head of the division of the Union of Armenians of Russia in Novokuybishevyevski Aram Ghazaryan, teachers, students and other representatives of the Armenian community.

 

Greeting the participants of the teleconference, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan presented the ministry’s programs in 2011 and particularly touched upon the conferences organized in 2011, including the Forum for Heads and Representatives of Diaspora Armenian Organizations, the Course for Training of Young Journalists and the Summer School for Young Leaders, as well as the “Ari Tun” pan-Armenian youth program.

 

Issues related to education, culture and other key issues of the Armenian community in Samara were discussed during the teleconference and the employees of the RA Ministry of Diaspora answered the questions concerning the Armenians of Samara.

On April 28, the RA Ministry of Diaspora organized a teleconference with the Armenian community of Aleppo.

 

The participants from Armenia were RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan and the heads of all ministry departments.

 

The participants of the teleconference from the RA Consulate General were RA Consul General to Aleppo Ashot Manukyan, Adviser to the RA Minister of Diaspora in Syria Lena Halajian, as well as Armenian seminary directors and students of Aleppo and representatives of the Armenian community.

 

Greeting the participants of the teleconference, Hakobyan presented the ministry’s programs for 2011 and particularly addressed the pan-Armenian forums aimed at consolidating the potential of all Diaspora Armenians, including the forums of “Heads of Chambers of Commerce and Industry”, “Perspectives of Diaspora development in a globalizing world”, plastic surgeons, Armenian doctors, representatives of Diaspora Armenian organizations and community heads, Armenian cooks, cardiologists, farmers, the 2nd Pan-Armenian Forum of Architects and Construction Engineers, a “Course-Reunion for Training of Young Journalists”, a Summer School for Young Leaders and more.

 

Hakobyan also touched upon the ministry’s “Our Greats” and “Ari Tun” programs and introduced the electronic library created by the ministry.

 

The participants from Aleppo asked many questions regarding the Diaspora Armenian teachers’ training program, the creation of a common textbook in Western Armenian and more.

 

During the teleconference, the RA General Consulate in Aleppo held an award ceremony for students who won the essay contest with the title “Our language is our homeland” organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

On April 20, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan moderated a session of the executive body for the 5th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists. Diaspora Armenian members of the executive body also participated in the session online.

 

Among participants from Armenia were executive body members, including Chairperson of the All-Armenian Media Association Tigran Harutyunyan, President of the Union of Journalists of Armenia Astghik Gevorgyan and Editor-in-chief of Lebanon’s “Aztag” daily newspaper Shahan Gantaharian, as well as Head of the Information-Analysis Division of the Department of Information and Telecommunication at the RA Ministry of Diaspora Nver Nalbandyan. Participating from the U.S. was Editor of “Armenian Mirror Spectator” weekly Hakob Vardivarian, Editor-in-chief of the “Nor Harach” newspaper Zhirair Cholakian from France and Editor-in-chief of “Noev Kovcheg” monthly Grigor Anisonyan from the Russian Federation.

 

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan greeted the participants and attached importance to the role of Diaspora Armenian mass media in the preservation of Armenian identity. Hakobyan stressed the need for shedding more light on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution in Diaspora Armenian media and attached special importance to the role of Armenian journalists working for foreign media outlets. The minister also introduced the ministry’s programs in 2011, which the ministry has declared as the Year of the Youth.

The participants discussed issues related to current developments in the field of journalism following the 5th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists, the organizing of regional meetings for Armenian presses, the establishment of coordinating bodies for Diaspora Armenian presses in the regions and the presentation of the “Armenian World” project, as well as presented details on the School-Forum for Young Diaspora Armenian Journalists to be held from June 26 to July 15 and the preparations.

 

The executive body’s Diaspora Armenian members presented the key issues facing the field of journalism in their respective regions. The timetable for organizing regional meetings with Armenian presses was specified and an agreement was reached on convening an executive body session at least once every month.

On April 12, the RA Ministry of Diaspora organized a teleconference with members of the Armenian Youth Association of Moscow.

 

The association was created by Armenian students and graduates of 14 universities of Moscow and is headed by PhD student at Moscow State University of International Affairs Henry Sardaryan. The association carries out activities for the Armenian youth of Moscow.

 

Among participants from Armenia were RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Vardan Marshlyan and heads of the ministry’s departments and divisions.

 

Welcoming the participants of the teleconference, Marashlyan presented the activities and upcoming programs of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and attached importance to the Moscow-based Armenian youth’s active participation in the ministry’s youth programs.

 

The participants of the teleconference particularly discussed the opportunities for the Armenian youth’s participation in the “Ari Tun”, “School for Young Leaders” and other programs. The ministry’s employees presented the electronic library and the “Hayern Aysor” electronic newspaper of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and touched upon the AGBU Armenian Virtual University and the “Depi Hayk” Foundation.

 

Attaching importance to the programs of the RA Ministry of Diaspora aimed at preserving the Armenian identity, as well as strengthening and developing the Armenia-Diaspora partnership, the members of the association expressed willingness to become actively involved in the implementation of those programs, particularly in terms of presenting them to Armenian students studying at the 14 universities in Moscow. The Moscow-based Armenian youth also underlined the need for young Armenian experts’ internships in Armenia, which will provide the opportunity to use the potential of Diaspora Armenian professionals for the development and strengthening of the Homeland.
