RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan’s visit to the United States

On September 27-October 2, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan paid a working visit to the United States where she had meetings with members of the Armenian community and the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA).


During a meeting with AIWA members and leaders on September 27, the latter presented details on the women’s conference to be held in San Francisco on October 5-11.


Then, Minister Hakobyan met with Armenian youth at the “Armenian Home”. The youth presented their programs, including their actions for the Armenian Cause.


Hakobyan also met with member of Glendale City Council Ara Najarian. During the meeting, the sides decided to continue efforts aimed at establishing sister ties between Glendale and the Kentron community of Yerevan.


The next day, the minister met with the heads of City National Bank, including vice-presidents Robert N. Saika and Mirna Batarseh) and discussed the issue of making investments in Armenia. The vice-presidents were interested in the creation of a company that would collect paper maculatura, iron wastes and plastic and the sides reached an agreement on cooperation in this sphere.


Then, Hakobyan met with leaders of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discussed issues related to the activation of investments in Armenia and the export of Armenian products to the United States.

On September 29, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan gave a press conference at the General Consulate in Los Angeles. During the press conference, Hakobyan presented the main principles of Armenia’s state policy on the Diaspora and the ministry’s activities in the past three years, after which she answered several questions.


In the second half of the day, Hakobyan visited famous Armenina painter, sculptor Emil Kazaz with the accompaniment of Consul General Grigor Hovhannisyan and awarded him the “William Saroyan” Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora for his support to the development of Armenia-Diaspora partnership and notable contribution to assistance in the preservation of Armenian identity.


Then, the minister met with the Homenetmen administration and discussed the issue of youth’s active participation in athletic associations.


On September 30. Hranush Hakobyan visited Glendale Adventist Medical Center where she met with the administration and several Armenian doctors. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to strengthening ties in Armenian and American healthcare and providing medical equipment to clinics.


On the same day, the minister gave an interview to ARTN TV.


Then, the minister participated in the meeting with benefactors at the RA General Consulate, delivered a speech and awarded several benefactors.


At the end, the minister took part in the presentation of the emblem of the “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund.

On October 1, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan participated in the year-in-review assembly organized by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry where she presented Armenia’s economic policy as a keynote speaker and handed awards to several businesswomen.


The minister also visited Narek School where she met with students and teachers.


On the same day, the RA Minister of Diaspora left for San Diego to participate in the local Armenian community’s fundraiser for the construction of a monastic complex.


On the next day, the minister met with heads of the Armenian International Women’s Association and discussed the programs for further cooperation.


Then, Hakobyan met with the heads of Vardan and Siranush Dance Group. During the meeting, issues related to the organizing of the dance group’s concert tours in Armenia in 2012.


During the visit, the minister also took part in the presentation of former U.S. Ambassador Peter Thompson’s book at Glendale Central Library.
