On September 8, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received Director of the “Oshakan Ensemble of Armenian Medieval Music” Grigor Arakelyan and French-Armenian producer of the ensemble Rozhe Piranian.
The Oshakan Ensemble was founded in 2004 and began concert tours in 2006. In the course of four years, the ensemble has presented Armenian medieval spiritual music by Mesrop Mashtots, Grigor Narekatsi, Baghdasar Dpir, Nerses Shnorhali, Sayat-Nova, Naghash Hovnatan, Komitas and more. The main purpose of the concerts is to introduce Europeans to Armenian spiritual music and its traditions.
Welcoming the guests, Mrs. Hakobyan underlined the importance of the ensemble’s activities in terms of disseminating Armenian culture around the world.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the opportunity to develop a concert program composed of 20 concerts on the occasion of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Mrs. Hakobyan proposed to start the program at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church with a performance by the Oshakan Ensemble on January 6.
Minister Hakobyan wished the Ensemble success and mentioned the Ensemble’s importance for the strengthening of relations between Armenia and the Diaspora.
