HRANUSH H. HAKOBYAN

 

Hranush Hakobyan was born on April 12, 1954 in the Sarukhan village of Gegharkunik province.

 

Education

 

In 1970 she graduated from N1 middle school of Gavar with a gold medal.

 

In 1975 she graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at Yerevan State University.

 

In 1989 she graduated from the Academy of Social Sciences of Moscow with honors.

 

In 1994 she graduated from the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University with honors.

 

Work experience

 

From 1975 to 1983, she lectured at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Yerevan State University, simultaneously heading the university’s Youth Communist Organization

 

In 1983-1985, she was elected secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth Organization (LCYO).

 

1985-1990-she headed the All-Union LYCO and was elected member of the bureau of the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist Youth Organization.

 

From 1986 to 2008, she has been elected Member of Parliament, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, the RA Supreme Council, the RA National Assembly and member of the RA Supreme Council presidency.  

 

From 1990 to 1995, she was Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Healthcare and Social Affairs of the RA Supreme Council.

 

From 1995 to 1997, she was elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Healthcare and Environment of the RA National Assembly.

 

From 1995 to 1997, she was Vice-chairperson of the Committee on Social Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

 

From 1996 to 1998, she was appointed RA Minister of Social Security.

 

From 1996 to 2008, she was appointed member and then leader of the Armenian delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

 

From 1999 to 2003, she was member of the NA Committee on International Relations and in 2003-2008 she was Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Issues of the National Assembly.

 

In June 2008, she was appointed Chairperson of the State Committee on Relations with the Diaspora of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia.

 

On October 1, 2008, she was appointed RA Minister of Diaspora by the presidential decree.

 

Other information

 

Hranush Hakobyan has authored 5 books and over 40 scientific articles. She has a PhD in Law. She lectures at the RA Academy of State Management and the State University of Gavar. She is a member of the boards of Yerevan State University, Yerevan State Medical University after Heratsi, Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction, Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan and the State University of Gavar.

 

She is a trustee of a number of funds. Hakobyan is also co-founder of the Armenian American Wellness Center and chairperson of the Armenian International Women’s Association. Hranush Hakobyan has created the youth parliament and is chair of the Board of Trustees of the “One Nation, One Culture” Fund.

 

She has been awarded state medals, honors, letters of acknowledgment and was decorated with the National Order of Merit of the French Republic.

 

She has been recognized as Woman of the Year, Best MP of the Year and Best Political Figure of the Year.

 

In 2008 Hranush Hakobyan was ranked RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

 

On January 16, 2010, Hranush Hakobyan won in one of the categories and received the certificate of honor by “Iravunk” newspaper for “Best Representative of the Sphere of National Politics of 2009 for Best Organizing of Preservation of the Armenian Identity in the Diaspora”.


Hranush Hakobyan was awarded the “Khachatur Abovyan” medal by the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan for development of the spheres of science, education and culture, great contribution to preservation of the Armenian identity in the Diaspora and patriotic activities.

 

Hranush Hakobyan is a member of the Republican Party and member of the Republican Party’s executive body.

The solemn opening ceremony of the Pan-Armenian Forum of Artists was held on September 7. Attending the opening were RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, President of the RA National Academy of Sciences Radik Martirosyan and over 160 artists participating in the forum.
