Celebrating the 1050th anniversary of the Armenian capital of Ani in 2011
Armenians will be celebrating two anniversaries in 2011. The first is the 20th anniversary of the two newly independent Armenian states and the second is the 1050th anniversary of the Armenian capital of Ani.
In 961, Ashot III Voghormats Bagratuni proclaimed Ani as the Armenian capital after moving the throne from Kars to Ani. Everyone knows the huge role that Ani has played in Armenians’ lives with its churches and unique historical-cultural values. Ani is proof of Armenians’ talent and is the pride of the Armenian nation. Even after being destructed and left in ruins, it is one of the most cherished places for all Armenians and a significant monument of heritage in world civilization.
Celebrating the anniversary of Ani will not only be a tribute to our ancestors and their creations, but will serve as the best opportunity to show, advocate and disseminate our cultural values worldwide as well.
To properly celebrate the anniversaries, it is necessary to hold scientific conferences in Armenia and Diaspora Armenian communities; publish popular and scientific books; release DVDs; prepare television programs, scientific programs and films, animated films and more.
We call on all Armenians in all corners of the globe to celebrate this cherished anniversary. We are also ready to hear all suggestions in order to organize the celebration more properly and systematically.
